Sepia tone means giving a brownish color to
the black and white version of the image.It gives a somewhat antique
look to the image.
There are various ways of getting Sepia tone on an image.Here we shall discuss the method that is destructive which means that the method applies the changes directly to the image.Hence it is advisable to make a copy of the image.We will use a Duotone command to get the sepia toning.

1) Opening the image in the Photoshop window
Open the colored image in Photoshop CS6 by using the menu File > Open or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O.This
will open a dialog box.Select the image by clicking on its name and click on Open button.
We can see the image opened as a Background layer in the Layers panel.
2)Converting the colored image to Grayscale
Duotone can be applied only to Grayscale images.So first thing we need to do is to convert the image to Grayscale.
After we see the image in Photoshop window we need to select the Grayscale option.
After we see the image in Photoshop window we need to select the Grayscale option.
Now Photoshop will open a message dialog box asking us to confirm whether we want to discard the color information of the image.It will also suggest that to control conversion we use menu Image > Adjustments > Black & White... Click on Discard button.
This will remove the color from the image instantly and turn it to black and white.

3) Applying the Duotone command
a)We will select menu Image > Mode > Duotone...
b)We can see a Duotone options dialog box.
c)In the Type we will select Duotone from the dropdown.
d)Now we have to select the two Inks viz. Ink 1 and Ink 2.

4) Selecting Ink Color
a) For selecting the Ink 1 color we need to double click on the colored square(second square in front of Ink 1).This will open Color Picker(Ink 1 Color) Dialog box where we have to select a brown color.We will enter R G B values as 230,135 and 30 respectively.We will then Press OK button and exit out of color picker dialog box.In the Duotone Options dialog box we will name Ink 1 as Brown.
b) For selecting the Ink 2 color we need to double click on the colored square(second square in front of Ink 2).This will open Color Picker(Ink 2 Color) Dialog box where we have to select a black color.We will enter R G B values as 0,0 and 0 respectively.We will then Press OK button and exit out of color picker dialog box.In the Duotone Options dialog box we will name Ink 2 as Black.

After selecting Ink 1 and Ink 2 colors and naming them we will click on OK button and exit out of the Duotone Options Dialog box.We can see that Photoshop has applied the duotone effect on the image and the image now has a Sepia tone .
5)Saving the image
After we are satisfied with the adjustments we will save the image by
selecting the menu File > Save or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S.This will open a dialog box where we
can write the name of the image.After typing a name click on Save
button.
